Unit 5, Medico Baia Formosa
Dr. Enzo Schroeder
I qualified as a medical doctor obtaining my MBchb degree at the University of Pretoria in 2006. My appreciation for the complexity and diversity of general surgery was fostered during my 2 year internship at the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital in the Eastern Cape and then in my community service year at the EG Usher Memorial Hospital in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal. This small rural hospital encouraged the expansion of my skill set and also cultivated confidence.
In 2010 I spent some months at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital gaining valuable ICU experience. I then worked in the Surgery department in Worcester as a Medical Officer before becoming a Registrar at Tygerberg Hospital and completing my specialist training with the University of Stellenbosch and being admitted as a fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 2015.
Having spent my youth as part of a farming community, faith and optimism were instilled by my family from an early age. This along with the decade and a half of training prepared me for the challenges a specialist surgeon faces, along with their patients, on a daily basis. I am blessed to have the support of my wife, Clare, and our beautiful children and together we make the most of this beautiful area we are fortunate enough to live in.
Opened in January 2016, my Plettenberg Bay practice has grown enormously and we continue to go from strength to strength committed to excellent patient care and continually striving to enhance the service our team provides.
Ashleigh graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2011, with a BSc in Dietetics. She completed her Community Service year at Zithuele Hospital, in the Transkei, where her love for South Africa was re-ignited encouraging her to stay on for another year working for a local NGO that supported the community around the hospital.
After that she accepted a position at Knysna Provincial Hospital in 2014 where she provided her services to both the hospital as well as the 6 local clinics in Plettenberg Bay for the following 5 years. After completing her MSc in Diabetes through the University of South Wales in 2015 and attending the 4-day "Diabetes Management Course for Health Professionals" offered by the Diabetes Educators' Society for South Africa, Ashleigh also does part-time tutoring of certain modules for the Post Graduate Diploma in 'Diabetes' and 'Obesity and Weight Management' for the University of South Wales.
In search of a new adventure Ashleigh entered the private sector and launched her own independent practice from our rooms in May 2019. She is registered as an "Optifast Dietician" through the CDE and is also registered as a Healthcare Provider on the DNAlysis Provider Network, and can assist with testing your DNA, and translating the results into practical dietary and lifestyle changes.
For customised dietary and nutritional advice, consultations can be arranged at the practice or directly with Ashleigh.
A true Plett local, Lauren is the daughter of a pastor and a Wittedrift High alumini. She completed an internship as an administrative clerk at the municipal clinic before joining the practice in 2017. A ray of sunshine in the front room of the practice, she is always at the ready to assist anyone who walks through the door. Lauren has become an integral part of the management of the practice. If you have any queries, give her a call. She will sort it out.
